Week 2
Setting up an Online Newspaper
At GLPS 22 we will be creating a student newspaper to
present at the end of camp.
In teams, you will work on 1 part of the newspaper and
then
all sections will be combined to create the student newspaper during week
3.
Here is the template to use for the student newspaper. Once your team has written their part of the
newspaper, one member will upload your work to the template.
Remember to add pictures and your sources to your work.
Have fun!
Newspaper stories have a unique style.
The purpose of a news story is to relay information to the reader.
Newspaper stories are written in an inverted Pyramid.
The most important information is at the top of the pyramid
and the least important information is at the bottom
Headline
The Headline summarizes what the story is about.
Who? What? When?
Where? Why?
Next the important details of who, what, when where and why are given.
Detail 1, 2, 3
Then two or three additional but less important details are given.
Final Details
Finally, one last new but connected detail is given.
There you have it, a news story!
Let,s look at a sample of a news story from TIME for Kids:
