Photo Essay
A photo essay tells a story using pictures
A famous saying is that "A picture is worth a thousand
words"
We will not be writing that many words but we will be
writing a paragraph about each picture.
Cesar Kuriyama has been doing a similar project called
"One Second Every Day" project. You can watch it here:
So let's get started with our version of Cesar Kuriyama's
idea.
Before you begin, think about these things:
Choose a topic
Theme/Story
Pictures 5-7
Captions/descriptions
In your photo essay please include an introduction and
conclusion!
Take out your cameras and start capturing shots to share
with us! Have Fun!!!!
Week 2
Movie Review - "Mao's Last Dancer"
Last Sunday we watched the movie " “Mao’s Last Dancer" a true story!
Now it is the time to write a review about the movie.
In your review, you need to include the following:
Genre:
Characters:
Setting:
Plot:
Opinion:

Now let's write a review:
The movie review should include an introduction where you
should introduce the movie, the genre and a brief introduction to the movie.
In the body of the review, explain the plot including main characters and
setting in one or 2 paragraphs.
In
another paragraph explain your opinion and answer these questions:
1. What lessons can you learn from this movie?
2. What qualities of leadership can you learn from the
characters in "Mao’s Last Dancer"?

Mr Chan (teacher who inspired Li)
Ben Stevenson (Houston Ballet Artistic Director)
Liz (Elizabeth Mackey - first wife of Li)
Lori (first dance partner)
Charles Foster (Immigration Lawyer)

Mary McKendry (Australian Ballerina - second wife and dance partner)

China, America, Australia
Finally, write a conclusion summarizing what you wrote in
your review.
The movie review needs to be a minimum of 500 words.
You can include a rating system for your movie review and then give the movie a score.

Week 1
Speech Writing
All students will write a speech and perform it in front of the class. Two students will be chosen to compete in the Speech Contest during the last week of camp.For week 1, choose your topic and start brainstorming about your speech.
To help you choose a topic. let's start by thinking about the word PODUIM

Consider the points above and after brainstorming possible topics make a decision!

I really enjoyed this GLPS camp! It was my honor in class 18 and have blog writing class with you, Ms. Heike! This camp really improved my English skills. I made many good friends who are living in different countries! I really enjoyed this camp and appreciate about many things. I really want to thank you to Ms. Heike. First of all you helped me to make a gmail account. Second, you helped me to teach how to write a good essay. Last but not least I have a blog! I really thank that because we can share our opinion.

I am class 18.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this camp!! I am very happy that I am belong to GLPS and class 18. It was hard but I liked all the classes. I was so happy to meet my new teachers, and friends.
It was a great time. I really like KMLA GLPS camp. I think it was a great time to spend time in KMLA with good friends and good teachers, PA and TA. I also improved my Speech, Mock trail and presentation skills during this camp. It was little bit hard, but it was interesting.
